Important information – release of SNOMED CT-AU containing AMT (version 4) for beta testing

The Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT) model has been significantly revised to version 4. Implementers are encouraged to access the SNOMED CT-AU beta testing release files and supporting documentation to update import processes and review use of AMT concepts, descriptions and relationships.

Since the first release of the current AMT model (v3), there have been changes to the SNOMED RF2 specification, and the introduction of the SNOMED International Drug model. Better integration with SNOMED CT enables streamlining of content and a substantial enhancement to the AMT, such improved interoperability with international systems and data, and new clinical use capabilities through therapeutic roles for medicine products.

The types of changes in AMT v4 include:

  • AMT concepts are replaced with equivalent SNOMED CT concepts
  • Model definitions are more precise and consistent
  • Australian preferred terms start with uppercase (i.e. sentence casing) unless the convention is otherwise (e.g. ‘mg’)
  • Fully specified names (FSN) follow SNOMED CT editorial policy
  • RF2 distribution bundle are aligned with current SNOMED RF2 specifications

All users of the SNOMED CT-AU release bundle should download the beta-testing release files and supporting documentation to update import processes, and review use of AMT identifiers or terms that are hard-coded in scripts or queries, or referenced on maps.

The content is available in the Shrimp browser by selecting AU (Experimental) – Latest from the version dropdown menu.
