The NCTS team is running a hands‑on workshop that will cover how clinical terminology is used in Allied Health software. Most of the day will focus on guided activities such as retrieving terms from a FHIR Terminology Server (Ontoserver), writing ECL queries for advanced searches, and applying terminology in front‑end mock‑ups. Short presentations will cover the National Clinical Terminology Service, new SNOMED CT‑AU content for Allied Health, and approaches for integrating terminology‑compliant systems with Smart Forms.

Content includes:

  • Core terminology concepts (CodeSystems, ValueSets, SNOMED CT structure)
  • Using the NCTS, SNOMED CT‑AU, LOINC, and the Shrimp visualiser
  • Ontoserver FHIR API operations (lookup, validation, ontology navigation)
  • Writing and testing ECL queries and creating ValueSets
  • Managing integration issues and handling unknown codes
  • Applying terminology services to UI workflows, including type‑ahead search and validation
